Our family has been in the flooring business for over 45 years. We are the second and third generation craftsmen of that proud heritage and have been running the business for over 20 years. The most important attribute that has been passed down to us is dependability. We look forward to being given the opportunity to show you that "Our Quality Will Floor You".

Owner - Fred Ruelas

Fred was raised on installing and finishing wood floors. His Dad was an accomplished wood floor craftsmen, having had the opportunity to work on "The Winchester Mystery House" in San Jose, basketball arenas, museums, and countless wood floors in homes and businesses around the Bay Area. Fred brought this knowledge with him over 17 years ago when he moved to Modesto. Michael, his younger brother, an accomplished wood floor craftsmen himself, is also part of the team . Both Fred and Michael oversee, and pass down the knowledge to the crew here at "A Step Above Flooring". With Fred's son, Fred JR, now part of the crew, we are ensuring we will be here for years to come.

Bringing The Best To Our Customers

As new inovations in hardwood flooring equipment are manufactured, "A Step Above Flooring" makes them available to our customers. Case in point; the Bona Atomic DCS (Dust Containment System). This vacuum system has been on the market in smaller versions for a few years, we were the first in Stanislaus County to have it available to our customers in the larger trailer hauled unit. The larger unit allows us to use multiple pieces of equipment, while still reducing even more of the dust associated with unfinished flooring installation. A lot of companies advertise "Dust Containment System", what a lot of them use is a DCS backpack, which doesn't remove near the amount of dust as our portable unit does, let alone our trailer hauled unit.
